Getting to know Old North Knoxville
Old North Knoxville was originally its own incorporated town — a streetcar suburb of the 1880s and 90s — before Knoxville absorbed it, and today it’s a National Register historic district where Queen Anne, Victorian cottage, foursquare and Craftsman homes line the streets in various stages of loving restoration.
The neighborhood association is active, and the district is known city-wide for its annual Victorian Holiday Home Tour. At its edge runs Central Street’s “Happy Holler” stretch — a strip of restaurants, bars, coffee and vintage shops that has become one of Knoxville’s favorite local districts — and downtown itself is a short walk, ride or drive south.
