Getting to know Cedar Bluff
The name traces to a 19th-century marble quarry: Knoxville was long known as the “Marble City” for the pink-and-brown stone quarried across the area, and a quarry here cut into a hillside bluff produced what was locally called “cedar marble.” The road built to reach it became Cedar Bluff Road, and the name stayed on the area long after the quarry closed.
Today Cedar Bluff is one of West Knoxville’s largest concentrations of office and technology parks — a position helped by its proximity to Oak Ridge and Oak Ridge National Laboratory — alongside a retail corridor anchored by big-box stores and family entertainment venues near I-40. Ten Mile Creek Greenway gives the area a flat, creek-side walking path, and Walker Springs Park adds twenty acres of hiking, biking and picnicking; Plumb Creek Dog Park and its adjacent disc golf course, and Dead Horse Lake Golf Course, round out the area’s recreation.
The residential streets sit alongside this office and retail development rather than apart from it — established ranch, split-level and traditional homes between West Hills to the east and the Hardin Valley/Pellissippi Parkway growth corridor to the west.
Getting around
I-40 runs along the south edge; Middlebrook Pike and Executive Park Drive carry local traffic, with Pellissippi Parkway and Hardin Valley a short drive west.
